Mathematics Education in the 4th Industrial Revolution: Thinking Skills for the Future

The Local Organizing Committee invites you to attend the 44th Annual Meeting of the IGPME. This is the first time the conference will be hosted by Thailand and CLMV countries (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam) where mathematics education is underrepresented in the community. Thus, this conference will provide chances to facilitate the activities and network associated in mathematics education in the region. The theme of the conference is “Mathematics Education in the 4th Industrial Revolution: Thinking Skills for the Future”, which is very timely for this era.
Unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference will be held fully online.
However, we would like to thank you for the support and opportunity given to us twice times to host the virtual
meeting of IGPME which was held on July 21-22, 2020. It is a great pleasure that we had this opportunity to experience the new way of conducting the 2020 virtual meeting of the IGPME effectively. Furthermore, PME 44 in this year in collaboration with the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology. It is very challenging to organize the virtual conference.
1.1 Presenting Organizations
The Conference will be presented jointly by Center for Research in Mathematics Education (CRME), Centre of Excellence in Mathematics (CEM), Thailand Society of Mathematics Education (TSMEd), Institute for Research and Development in Teaching Profession for ASEAN Khon Kaen University (IRDTP), The Educational Foundation for Development of Thinking Skills (EDTS) and The institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST).
1.2 Virtual Hosting Organization
The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology is hosting the virtual component of the conference. The Technion offers degrees in science and engineering, and related fields such as architecture, medicine, industrial management and education. The hosting Faculty for the PME44 conference is the Faculty of Education in Science and Technology.
The Virtual Organizing Committee (VOC) invites you to visit the virtual website for the PME Conference at https://virtualpme44.co.il/. The link directs to the home page of the website, where you can view the Scheduleat-a-Glance for the general flow of the conference, information about the plenary speakers, a link to registration, and contact details. Registered participants will receive instructions on how to navigate the digital conference program, how to add sessions to a calendar, how to bookmark
particular sessions, and so on from the Virtual Organizing Committee toward the end of June.
1.3 Plenary speakers
The Plenary speakers for PME44 are Roberto Araya (Chile), David Wagner (Canada), Michal Tabach (Israel) and Berinderjeet Kaur (Singapore). The Plenary panel discussion will be held on the topic “The 4th Industrial Revolution will transform/ disrupt the Teaching and Learning of Mathematics”. The Panel members will be Hamsa Venkatakrishnan (South Africa) (Chair), HeeChan Lew (South Korea), David Keith Jones (United Kingdom), Anna Baccaglini Frank (Italy) and Oi-Lam NG (Hong Kong SAR).
